This school was in operation for many years and served many
boys and girls. The information in this article was provided by Earle Ford
Adams, a former teacher. Some of the other teachers of Chestnut Grove were
Beulah Thompkins, Florence Rogers, Etha Ladd, Joe Turner, Irvin Futrell,
Lucy Nunn Clark, Laura Wallace, Annie W. Patterson, Lillie Randolph, Ophelia
Thomas Ellis, Sarah Henderson, Madeline Lawrence, Georgia Shelton, Mary
Lou Thomas, Lucille Larkins, Syd Frith, and Herber Rhye. Mrs. Adams recalls
a family that needed their faces washed, so she carried them to the cistern;
but they did not know how to wash their faces. She recalls only one trustee:
