SEBREE CHURCH

The Sebree General Baptist Church was organized about 1850 with approximately forty members, according to the best information that is available.

the Rev. Isaac H. Henry was probably the first pastor. Some of the other pastors have been:

The oldest member of the church is Albert Shelton who joined the church in 1887. He is now 91 years old, and has taught a Sunday School class regularly for fifty-five years. He began serving as Sunday School superintendent in 1891 and continued until recent years. He was ordained a deacon in 1908, and has served as clerk of the church since 1890.

Other clerks have been Ben Pearce and J. H. Pearce.

The Sebree General Baptist Church is the oldest of all the churches in Sebree. The present building is the second one on the same location. The first building was razed about 1907 and a new building erected and dedicated the same year by Rev. J. R. Edwards.

J. W. Melton was deacon and Sunday School superintendent and a faithful member for many years and until his death in 1948. There are 32 members at present, and 30 enrolled in the Sunday School, with Fred Poore as superintendent.
