ROCKCASTLE SCHOOL about 1933 In 1890 a grade school was established in the Rockcastle community by John Grasty, a school teacher originally from South Carolina. In 1913 the original school building was destroyed by fire. The school building that still stands was completed in 1914. Enrollment ranged from twenty to thirty pupils throughout most of the school's history. Teachers were responsible for all of the chores associated with the school's operation. Rockcastle School was closed in 1948 because of consolidation. Teachers of the school included R.C. Williams, J.D. Wallis, Ira Johnson, and Eddie Wilson. |
