We found when researching in the Denver (CO) library, that the indices for the 1840 census for Livingston County were incorrect. Part of the Livingston County census is indexed under Lincoln County, and the film at the Denver Library also reflects the error. The pages that are mis-indexed are listed as from Lincoln County, Smithland district. On the film, we observed that the Lincoln County census was taken by Benjamin Duncan, and the Livingston census was taken by James Duvall. However, several of the Duvall pages are included with that for Lincoln County. The pages we found to be mis-indexed are pages 123 through 149. Perhaps this information could be posted on the Livingston County home page, in order to help other beginning researchers. Probably the same message should also be posted on the Lincoln County home page. Michael Mason 1406 South Elm St. Denver, CO 80222 mmason@ecentral.com 303-756-9974
