REV. CARL SMITH

The Rev. Carl C. Smith was born in Earlington, Ky., December 16, 1906, the son of E. Z. and Cora Robinson Smith. His parents are living in Earlington.

He was united in marriage to Miss Irene Maddox December 24, 1926.

On December 31st, 1931 a baby girl came to bless their home, and it was this that made him realize that parents needed to be Christians to rear their children in the proper manner. Having lived a drunkard's life for many years, he gave his heart to the Lord and became a Christian in august 1932. The Lord blessed his home with a son in 1933, and another daughter in 1939.

He felt the call to preach in 1936, but fought the call until 1941 when he surrendered, and started preaching the Gospel. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and was ordained as a deacon of the Earlington, Ky. church.

Rev. Smith has been very active as an evangelist and the Lord has blessed his efforts. He has preached 2125 sermons; helped in 82 revivals; witnessed 774 conversions; baptized 196 candidates; conducted 81 funerals; and performed five marriages. He has organized and built one new church, that at South Carrolton, Ky.; helped the Mt. Gilead church while pastor there, when they rebuilt; and while serving as pastor of two other churches helped them remodel their church buildings.

He was Moderator of Union Association when it met with the Earlington church in 1952, and for a few years he and his family have had a radio program on the air. He seems the happiest when on his knees, instructing some sinner to pray.
