Rev. M. B. Covington

Rev. M. B. Covington was born June 26, 1831. He professed a hope in Christ in 1867 and joined the General Baptist church and was a faithful member until his death.

He was ordained to the full work of the ministry November 11, 1867, by Rev. D. Long and Rev. Joseph Joines. He was very active in church and denominational work; was moderator of Union Association in 1873. About that time he was on a soliciting committee to build up a permanent Home Mission fund.

In 1876 he helped organize Mt. Union Association. He continued active in promoting the Gospel until 1898, when he was confined to his bed with nervous prostration. He departed this life May 19th, 1905. His funeral was conducted at Olive Grove General Baptist church by Rev. A. B. Stone and Rev. J. C. Gary. It is said that he organized this church and principally built the house.

We have no record of his work, other than what a friend said of him: "He was always cheerful and bore his affliction well, and has often said that he was waiting God's summons to depart." W
