STAR HOPE CHURCH


The Star Hope Church of General Baptists was organized November 1, 1875, with 18 members. Some of these members came from Concord General Baptist Church to assist in the organization.

Elder Absalom Pearce was the minister who organized the church, and Elder Miles Fraser was the first pastor. In 1906 a committee was appointed to raise money to build a new church building. this new building was dedicated the second Sunday in May, 1908, with the Rev. T. A. H. Laslie preaching the dedication sermon.

In 1951 this church was re-decorated and re-dedicated, with rev. W. W. Oakley conducting the services.

The following ministers have been members of Star Hope Church: Rev. A. Pearce, Rev. E. M. Mercer, Rev. W. T. Childers, Rev. W. A. Williams, Rev. Alvin Childers.


,br> Clerks have been J. W. Frederick, G. W. King, W. M. King, William H. King, W. A. Williams, Osbon Mc Coy, Ida Brooks, Samuel E. Wiseman, Maurice Clayton, Julietta Hinkle, Sara Jane Helton.

Union Association met with this church in 1878, in 1908 and in 1933.
