These are abstracts I made from the microfilmed Charlotte County, VA Deed Books. I'm not very good at reading old handwriting so there are probably errors. I would urge you to consult the originals and NOT use my abstracts for anything more than a pointer to the source records. You will find a few scattered notes to myself here also. After Amelia County, some of the Thorps moved to Charlotte County, VA. One, John Thorp, moved to Granville County, NC.



Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 4, p. 2, 17 April 1777. Wilson Maddox of Charlotte County sold to William Thorp for 264 pounds of VA money 198 acres on Wards Fork and following the Creek as it meanders. /S/ Wilson Maddox, Wit. Benj. Ward, Wilson Maddox, Peter Harlee.

Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 4, p. 16, 2 June 1777. Edward Adkins to William Thorp for 100 pounds VA money 102 acres in Charlotte Co. on Wards Fork and following the creek as it meanders. /S/ Edward Adkins Wit. Peter Harlee, James White.

Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 5, p. 3, 3 June 1782. William Thorp of Charlotte Co. sold to Jeremiah Bonner for 300 pounds specie 198 acres on Ward's Fork..... /S/ William Thorp, Wm. Johnson, Andrew Hannah, James Thorp. Recorded 3 June 1782.

Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 5, p. 147, 14 Sept. 1785. Know all men by these presents - I Isham Prewit, Jr. being about to leave this county do hereby appoint William Thorp my Trustee in my absence and impower him to sell my land and settle my business of every kind whatsoever. 14 Sept. 1785. /S/ Isham Prewit, Jr. Wit. Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 6, p. 51, 1 June 1789. William Thorp of Charlotte Co. sold to William Johnson for 170 pounds 200 acres on Ward's Creek. /S/ William Thorp. Wit. Thomas Read.

Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 6, p. 64, 5 Oct. 1789. Andrew Hannah of Charlotte Co. sold to William Thorp for 300 pounds 268 1/2 acres adjoining Smith's land and Turpin's and Hannah's lines and Payne's land and running along the road and a road and a row of marked trees and Glazebrooks land. /S/ Andrew Hannah Wit. William Johnson, Geo. Hannah, Brooks Baker. Wife Anna Hannah relinquishes right of dower. Recorded 5 Oct. 1789.

Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 7, p. 225, 4 Dec. 1794. William Thorp of Charlotte Co. sold to Thomas Smith for 100 pounds 268 1/2 acres in Charlotte Co. on Wallace's Creek and on the main road leading from Booker and Coles Ferry to the county court house. /S/ William Thorp Wit. Jno. Smith, Julius Glazebrook, Terry Thorp, James Moore, Wm. Moore, Bernard Cheatham.

Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 7, p. 229, 5 Dec. 1796. John Dudgeon, of Charlotte Co. sold to Terry Thorp for 200 pounds land in Charlotte Co., 200 acres adjoining lands of William Hubbard, Alexander Dudgeon, Barnett More and William Overstreet.. /S/ John Dudgeon. Mary his wife relinquished her dower rights.

Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 8, p.32, 4 Aug. 1797. James Downey and wife Martha sold to Thomas Thorp for 30 pounds 54 1/2 acres of land lying on the road leading from the courthouse to Owen Terrys. /S/ James Downey and Martha Downey.

Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 8, p. 175, 6 Oct. 1798. Terry Thorp and Susanna his wife of Charlotte Co., Va. sold to John Cobb, Jr. of Halifax Co. for 275 pounds 255 1/2 acres on Louse Creek on the road from William Hubbards to the Campbell Co. line. /S/ Terry Thorp Wit. James Pattell, Thomas W. Dearman, Micajah Cayce. Susanna Thorp relinquished her dower rights.

Charlotte Co., VA Deed Book 10, p. 5, 10 April 1802. Thomas Thorp and Sinai his wife sold to Leroy Lambert for 45 pounds 77 acres adjoining Jackson and Daviese's land and on Jones' and Downey's lines. /S/ Thomas X Thorp. Wit. Thos. H. Spencer, James Boulder, Gabriel Beagley. Wife Sinai Thorp relinquished her dower rights.
