Death Claims Member of Pioneer Family Miss Lula Golladay died Saturday night, September 23rd at the home of Mr and Mrs William C. Golladay at Roaring Spring in Trigg county.Miss Golladay was the daughter of the late Samuel Golladay and his wife Mrs Mattie Livingston Golladay, both now deceased and was born on the Golladay homestead on Casey's Creek near Roaring Springs, where members of the family had resided for more than 100 years.
Miss Golladay continued to live in the house formerly occupied by her grandfather and her father, until about a year ago when her health gave way and she and her sister, Miss Callie Golladay, moved to the home of their brother, Herbert Golladay, near Newstead, where she made her home until about three months ago, when she and her sister, Callie came to the home of Mr and Mrs. William Golladay at Roaring Spring where she continued to live until she passed away. The Golladay family has been recognized as one of the leading families of the county for more than 100 years, being prominent in social and business affairs of the county.
Miss Golladay was a member of Roaring Spring Christian Church and was always a faithful member. She enjoyed entertaining her friends at her home and took great pleasure in administering to the sick in her community when opportunity permitted.Funeral services were held at the home of her nephew, William C. Golladay, at Roaring Spring conducted by the Rev. L.E. Martin of the Second Baptist Church of Hopkinsville, who acted in place of her own minister, who was not available for the occasion.
Burial was in the family lot at Riverside cemetery in Hopkinsville, Monday, the 25th of September. A large gathering attended the funeral and also the burial many from a distance. Surviving are W.L. Golladay, and O.T. Golladay brothers of Roaring Spring, and Miss Callie Golladay, a sister of Roaring Spring and Herbert Golladay, a brother of Newstead in Christian County. Also several nephews and nieces. Pallbearer were Tighman Jones, Winston Tuggle, Earnest Miller, Marshall Aldridge, Wallace Davis, Blair Golladay.
