Long Illness Results In Death
End Came Last Saturday At Noon To Mrs. Harry Garton In Cadiz
Was Daughter Of Late Col. J. F. Gentry and Was Born in Town of Canton
Mrs. Blanche Akin Gentry Garton, wife of Mr. Harry H. Garton, of this city, passed away last Saturday about noon at her home after an illness lasting for more than a year. Hardening of the liver, with dropsical and other complications was her trouble, and for more than two weeks she had been lingering between life and death, and the end was not a surprise to those who had kept constant watch at her bedside.
Mrs. Garton was a daughter of the late Col. J. F. Gentry, in his day one of the leading and most prominent citizens of all Trigg county, and she was born at Canton on December 23rd, 1861. On October 22nd, 1880, she was united in marriage to Mr. Harry H. Garton, of this city.
To this union two children were born. Ellen died at the age of ten, and Mrs. Lucien F. Wells, of Slaughters, Ky., is the surviving daughter. Mrs. Garton is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Waller, of Leesburg, Fla., and Mrs. Albert Jefferson, of near Julien, Christian county. J. F. Gentry, of Virginia, is a half brother, and Mrs. W. M. Wilson, of Mayfield, is a half sister.
Mrs. Garton was a member of the Christian church, and had been for years. With a disposition that was as kind as it was sweet, ever thoughtful of other people and their happiness, she was a woman held in the highest esteem by all. She enjoyed her friends, loved her home and was ever thoughtful of the husband and family, and her great delight was always in doing good, and in helping those who were in need of help.
Funeral and burial took place Sunday at eleven o'clock at East End Cemetery in Cadiz, a large number of friends being present. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. John H. Allen, of the Christian church.
The daughter, Mrs. Lucien F. Wells, of Slaughters; Mrs. M. S. Walker and Mr. and Mrs. R--- Brooks, of Madisonville and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jefferson , of Christian county, are some of those from a distance here to attend the funeral and burial.
Mr. Garton the heart broken husband, left Tuesday with his daughter, Mrs. Wells. He will visit his sister Mrs. Walker, in Madisonville, for a week, and then go to Slaughters for a week's visit to the daughter, Mrs. Wells and family, after which he will return to Cadiz where he will continue to reside.
