CLAY -- Mamie Ruth Engle, 85, Clay, died at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday at Community Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
A 52-year member of First Baptist Church in Clay, she was a past president of the Clay PTA, and worked with the Webster
County Cancer Society. She was also a member of the Eastern Star No. 472 in Clay, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Auxiliary in Providence.
She was a preceded in death by her husband, James, who died in 1994, and a son, Leroy, who died in 1970.
Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn Cowan of Clay; two sons, Billy Frank Burns of Lavina, Tenn., and Jerry Engle of
Grand Rivers, Ky.; one sister, Nannie Mitchell of McLemoresville, Tenn.; one stepsister, Evelyn Barger of Lavina, Tenn.; and two half-brothers, June Burns and Johnnie Burns, both of Lavina, Tenn.; one granddaughter and two grandsons; six
step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Clay. The Revs. Gerald Martens and Laddie Pride will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 8 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay, and after noon Friday at the church.
