ABERNATHY
OPHELIA ABERNATHYThe death of Mrs. Ophelia Abernathy late Thursday evening, was not unexpected.
She went quietly to her last sleep after many months of weary suffering. As the evening shadows fell her soul took its flight and was carried to the pearly gates just in time to catch the sweet vesper chimes from the celestial city. Her life was a noble example.
Beyond the highest impulses of human nature, her whole being was radiant with the purest Christian sentiments. She was in fact a faithful worker for her Master. Her life was devoted to the cause, and she is even now reaping the glad reward of her years of albor and suffering. She was so kind, tender, true, so devoted to friends and charitable to strangers, that her death is accepted as a calamity by the community.
She leaves a husband and son whose devotion to her was beautiful and whose grief is shared by us all. She was a member of the Baptist church and in that capacity, she was all that was beautiful and noble in womanhood, and as she is laid to rest, every heart will commit her grave into the care of heaven and under the sentinelship of angels. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the Baptist church at 3 o'clock, by her pastor, Rev. J.N. Prestridge. The interment was in the city cemetery.
